Someone compared this Author to Karen Marie Moning. Not even close.Connor MacKiernan always held himself up to high standards and rigid ideals of right and wrong, honor and responsibility to his Clan and family. He held himself to higher standards than those against which he measured anyone around him. Connor is a good man who's betrothed marries another while he's away on Crusade. Being humiliated with such a betrayal makes him vow to never marry any woman from his land or neighboring lands. But when circumstances force him to marry, he cannot break his vow, so he chooses a woman from the future....with a wee bit'o'magic from the Fae Folk.
She's getting married in a week and she doesn't love her fiance'. She's just realized she doesn't even like him! Definitely not a good sign. For such an intelligent (book smart) girl, Caitlyn Coryell was making some pretty stupid decisions. But no more! She's gonna break her engagement and take back her life. Cate is a good person with a good heart. She's not a strong individual and is easily manipulated. She doesn't make decisions easily.
This was such a neat idea for a plot but unfortunately, this Author did a poor job bringing it home. Not only did she drop the ball, she leaves the reader feeling incomplete. The character descriptions are poor and filter in slowly. The plot drags and takes forever to take off....and when it kind'a does, it's STILL too slow. I was never engrossed in this story. It never "captured" me. The narrative goes on too long...doesn't balance with the dialogue. I never cared for our heroine Caitlyn. She's a weak airhead with zero backbone and I couldn't help but wonder repeatedly just WHAT our hero saw in her...other than her chasing him around everywhere. I liked Connor...would've liked him even more if there was some descriptive details on him. There just wasn't enough about HIM! And then we find out that Cate can only get back to her time once she finds her "one true love"...and if her one true love reciprocates those feelings...if he loves her too. Once that happens, then BAM....she can go home! Now I ask ya...is that smart writing? Kinda makes ya not wanna find your true love for fear of never seein' him again, huh? Talk about a "no win" situation. I'm proud to say I read every chapter, every word to the end...but this is not a story I'd ever reread. I doubt I'll pick up the Author again. Her genre is just too 1980's sweet. Beyond the Highland Mist (Highlander, Book 1) it was not.

Thirty Nights with a Highland Husband The Daughters of the Glen Book 1 Melissa Mayhue 9781416532866 Books Reviews
I have gotten into a "time travel/Scottish" phase lately, and I got this book during the daily deal. This was a great read. Basically, it is based loosely on Fae lore and a heritage of Fae magic passed through the generations from mother to daughter with true love being the main theme (it is a romance afterall). As with most time travelers I've read, the woman is sent to the past and eventually falls in love with a Scottish warrior.
The book had a nice twist in the ending that had me excited and anxious to read more. I loved the characters and thought they were well done. The ending had me wanting more but only because I was so into the book. The epilogue definitely helped cap the story nicely, and it has me wanting to read more of the series!
There were only a few grammar errors, which is very nice (a definite thanks to the editor), and there wasn't any plot errors that I could see. For those who don't like too detailed "love" scenes, this book is great for you as the scenes were detailed but not so much that it bogged down the story.
Overall, a great start to a series. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves romance, time travel and Scottish books.
P.S. as a side note, if you're a fan of in depth books, this one may not be for you. Or if you're a stickler for details (I can be in certain books), you probably will be disappointed. So, if you are either types, save your money.
However, if you want a light romance that sticks more to the main details (like, characters, plot events, etc vs. details of thirteenth century Scotland, complications of heroine in the past, etc). This book seems to be solely for the romance aspect than anything else, a perfect read for romance readers!
I love Time Travel Romance books, especially ones with sexy Highlanders. This is my second time reading this book and I still love it. My favorite TTR books are when a modern, sassy heroine is taken back in time to meet up with a sexy hero and that is exactly what this book is about. This series, Daughters of the Glen, has a twist in that the heroines are descendants of the Fae (fairies). They are given special powers and allowed to find only one true love. Cate had fallen in love with Connor, however, Connor has had a bad history with women and decided that he would live a life alone. The majority of the story is about them falling in love (the best part of a romance in my opinion). It also has a fairy tale quality with magic and a happy ending. However, the romance is not for the young but for mature readers. I love the Scottish background along with the Scottish brogue of these men. The writing is witty and fresh making you want to turn to the next page to see what happens. I would recommend this book for all Time Travel Romance lovers. It's one of the best!
