Comedy? Not really. Not much humor here and what there is, is not very clever or witty. Romantic? Well, I didn't get any feels from it. Maybe that's just me.This is categorized as a multicultural and interracial romance. Not especially multicultural. Both H and h are of the same Western culture, just of different skin tones. If one was from Slovenia and the other from Zimbabwe, now that's multicultural.
And speaking of the H and h, how old are they anyway? In their 30s? Whatever the case, their I.Q. and E.Q. were not exactly impressive.
This is a second chance romance. Sometimes I like those. But in this case I did not care if these two ever got together again. The h is always on the defensive and the H is sweaty, somewhat ineffectual as a parent, and lacking self-confidence in his job.
I should probably not be submitting this review since this is a DNF for me. The writing was flat and dull, the dialogue boring and immature, and the romantic attraction at about a 1 on a scale of 1 to 15.

Nothing Personal eBook Karina Halle Reviews
This book was such a breath of fresh air! Karina can write anything but she does romantic comedy so well. This book was entertaining, funny, sexy and sweet. There was a tiny bit of angst but it was simply a fun book. I loved the characters so much. Kessler seemed like a cocky ass but when he opened himself to love, he ended up being so much more. And Nova seemed shattered by past events but all she needed was Kessler and Hunter to repair her broken heart again. The side characters, the geckos and of course, the evil chicken, all added laughs and smiles to this wonderful story.
I've been a fan of Karina's writing for years now. Honestly, I love everything she writes, and this one was no different. I adored the dynamic between Nova and Kessler. It was so deliciously complicated. I sort of love that he was still under her skin after all that time. And I see why... because he's so swoony! Nova was a fierce character, despite her insecurities and troubled past. I feel like that's what makes characters so strong and lovable. And the fact that Kessler was an in-over-his-head single father (to an adorable kid like Hunter) made me love him that much more. It was obvious that Kessler and Nova were meant for each other. Their story was very sweet and charming. I highly recommend this, along with all of Karina's other books. Mahalo!
Karina Halle is a new author for me and I am really glad I gave “Nothing Personal” a try. I really admired Nova Lane, the heroine, and her smart businesses sense and fair ethical standards. She was not only intelligent, she was driven, independent, loyal, and caring. She worked hard to get where she was in her company and was vying for a promotion, when her ex-boyfriend, Kessler, was hired to take on the job temporarily.
Kessler recently learned he was a father and I so admired how he stepped up, and tried to be a great dad and role model. It was very heartwarming and his son was just adorable.
I really loved Nova and Kessler at work and their sassy, witty banter and undeniable chemistry. Karina writes with such detail and you can’t help but fall in love with both characters. I loved how honest and open they were and how they did eventually talk about their past pain and what went wrong in their relationship, and their future career goals. Nova pulls no punches when she lets him know he has the temporary job that she is aiming for, and he lets her know he wants to keep it so they can continue getting to know one another again. I like a book where the characters act like actual adults and are able to talk things through. It wasn’t easy for these two, but through the pages you realize they were meant to be and deserve a second chance. I really liked the ending of “Nothing Personal” as it was exactly what I was hoping for. I liked that Kessler but a bit vulnerable and could admit when he was wrong and needed help. I admire that in a man.
I also love the description and details of Hawaii, where this book took place and felt as if I was there.
To say Nova catches her man in awkward positions is an understatement, “Kessler, what the eff?” she cries out, her eyes darting between my face and my ***k. “Are you… okay?” Before I can even try to form words she frowns at my ***k again. “Why do you have a hard-on?” There are times I wonder who Nova is trying to convince herself or Kessler, “I’m not ogling you,” she manages to say, a bit too late. I grin at her, making sure everything is flexing. And as her eyes coast over the rigid planes of my abs, they pause at my crotch, where, yeah, I’m pretty effing hard as well. “I can’t believe you’re turned on,”she says, shaking her head in disgust. “Put your shirt back on and your boner away, I can’t talk to you like this.” I adored this book, I fell in love with Kessler and Nova.
“Everything seems impossible until it’s not.”
“Just ...tell me that you at least Aloha me.”
I have been a huge fan of Karina and her writing from the EIT series! So when I heard of this new book I was so excited. Karina did not disappoint! I was in a 3 and a half month reading slump and Karina’s books just got me out of it!
The main reason I loved this is because of the two main characters, Nova and Kessler. Individually, they were relatable character, and together they are a dynamic duo! Nova was a strong lead female character who knew what she wanted! And Kessler was so funny! I was laughing at him so much. His relationship with his son was so sweet!
I feel in love with these two!
After reading this I now want to go to Hawaii!
If you are looking for a fun, light, quick read this is for you! And while you are at it, check out more of Karina Halle’s books. You will not regret it! Thank you Karina for another amazing book!
